Access Folders as Drives

You can create Virtual Drives in your Computer. Now you can access your Favorite Folders as a drive in My Computer. This drive will show Disk Space of the folder's drive so it seems that the disk space has increased!!!

Do The Following:

1]. Start >> Run

2]. Type cmd and hit Enter

This will open "Command Prompt"

3]. Type subst Z: E:\folder and hit Enter key.

You can replace Z: with your desired New Drive Letter (Except existing Drive letters)!
You can replace E:\folder with the path of your favorite folder!

4]. Now, type exit
This creates a new drive! When you open this, it will open your folder!!!

Isn't it Awesome?

5]. Right Click on Startup >> Open

This opens the Startup folder

6]. Paste the Virtual Drive Emulator.bat file here!

That's all; now the drive will automatically be created when ever you start your pc

What are Templates?

"Templates" can have different meanings, depending on the application of a "template". Normally, as far as computer usage goes, templates are considered as files (or "skeleton" documents) to help computer users to create a new file (or document) based on the information contained in the generic or skeleton file.

For example, if you use a word processor, you can create a letterhead for the company you work for, with only company information contained in it, and with no "body text". When this document is saved as a template, you can easily create a company letter, by using the letterhead template. When you create the new document, you can base the new document on the template, resulting in a document with a letterhead already completed, which will save you loads of time. Now you only have to fill in the text that applies to the specific document that you want to create.

One of the things that's most striking about this book is that the first half of the book has no dialogue. In fact the whole story has very few captions and little dialogue. This is not because it's full of slam bang action. It's done to create a very creepy atmosphere full of oppressive silences and gaps in communication. Why does Internet Explorer take more than 200MB of memory?

The term "Explorer" can be reference in several ways, as the Windows operating system uses three individual types. 1. Internet Explorer - The obvious web browser 2. Windows Explorer - For listing the contents of the hard drive 3. Explorer - the actual GUI (Graphical User Interface) which provides the graphics and "point & click" functionality while running Windows.

As 200mb seems an excessive amount for any program to be using, this very likely could be a result of a possible virus/spam or unnecessary programs running in the background.

Try this if you haven't yet done it.

There is a fantastic system utility, called Faber Toys. It's mainly developed for power users who want to know what programs are running in the background and the processes as well. It's very similar to clicking CTL-ALT-DEL on your system, but also informs you of what those programs are used for.

After determining which programs are not needed you can then prevent those from starting up automatically by unchecking them in MSCONFIG. MSCONFIG is a system configuration utility in Windows. 1. Go to (start), (run), (type msconfig), (start up tab). 2. Uncheck all programs that start from a fresh boot. 3. After making those changes you must restart Windows. 4. Check to see if the explorer.exe memory usage is the same. If it seems back to normal after that, go back and check the programs you want running at start up one by one to see which program is guilty.

What should you look for in a new computer?

Computer OSes such as Vista and new programs place greater demands on RAM, CPU, hard drives and thermal issues. Catagorizing users such as home users, office users, professional users is meaningless. Some home users want to play local or internet games which require a good quality video card so this home user becomes a home-power-user. An office user who uses spreadsheets a lot needs a high spec'd CPU to zip through a days week in record speed. Some so-called professional users do a lot of file transfer and copying and may be more productive with firewire or e-sata capability.

The most basic office/workstation PC now should be minimum Core 2 Duo E4500 2.2GHz and 1gb RAM. Users should expect reasonable levels of performance in a work station or morale and productivity will be affected.

Apple Macs are among the most reliable computers and has good performance. Free operating systems such as Linux can be installed on all computers and have better performance than Vista. It is also recommended to buy a computer with XP instead of Vista if you're looking for Windows.

I think one should also consider the aspect of upgrading does the computer gives room for upgrading if yes then thats the computer one should think about buying since buying computers everyday is expensive expecially in africa.

How to Lighting Fast Start Up IE

Isn't it annoying when you want to go to a new website, or any other site but your homepage, and you have to wait for your 'home' to load? This tweak tells Internet Explorer to simply 'run', without loading any webpages. (If you use a 'blank' page, that is still a page, and slows access. Notice the 'about:blank' in the address bar. The blank html page must still be loaded..). To load IE with 'nothing' [nothing is different than blank]:

1]. Right-click on any shortcut you have to IE [You should create a shortcut out of your desktop IE icon, and delete the original icon]

2]. Click Properties

3]. Add ' -nohome' [with a space before the dash] after the end quotes in the Target field.

4]. Click OK

Fire up IE from your modified shortcut, and be amazed by how fast you are able to use IE!

How to Disallow Changes to IE Settings

Hackers and Browser Hijacking is one area of the Net that affects everyone at some stage. In addition to having third party utilities such as SpyBot, Anti Virus scanners and firewalls installed there are some changes that can be made to Windows 2000/XP. Some of these tips require editing of the Registry so it is wise to either backup the registry and/or create a Restore Point.

Disallow changes to IE settings through IE: This is another anti hijacker tip. IE can be set so that any changes to its settings must be performed through the Internet icon in the Control Panel, rather than through IE's own interface. Some particularly unscrupulous programs or sites try to tamper with setting by accessing the Tools, Options menu in IE. You can disable this and still make changes to IE's settings through the Control Panel.

Open the Registry and browse to:

1]. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ Policies\ Microsoft\ Internet Explorer\ Restrictions.

2]. Create or edit a new DWORD value named "NoBrowserOptions" and set it to 1 (this is a per-user setting).

Some third-party programs such as Spybot Search and Destroy allow you to toggle this setting.
