System restore is a new feature in Windows versions after and including Windows ME (which includes ME, XP, 2000). This feature of Windows allows the user to revert the system back to a previous state. Several reasons of doing this might be because they were attacked by a virus and wish to revert to a state without the virus, or they have problems such as a corrupted registry, etc.
